Improving your motorcycle’s performance means a better fuel economy and an overall faster bike. There are several different ways that you can boost your motorcycle’s performance, some of which are very cheap and easy to perform. If you’re interested in learning more about how to improve your motorcycle’s performance, check out this guide from Jim Moroney’s Inc.

Improve the Air Intake

Installing a free-flowing air filter or airbox removal kit will improve your motorcycle’s air intake. This is a cheap yet effective way to improve overall performance. However, keep in mind that changing air intake will also change how the engine consumes fuel. If you choose to go this route, be ready to make further adjustments.

Improve the Exhaust

There’s a long history of people changing their motorcycle’s exhaust ports purely for aesthetic reasons. However, an improved exhaust system can benefit a motorcycle in a number of different ways, including reducing weight, increasing horsepower, boosting torque, and making the bike run slightly quieter. There are several different exhaust systems available on the market, so do some research to find the one that best suits your needs.

Use High-Quality Fuel Filters

Your motorcycle’s fuel filter cleans contaminants out of fuel going into the engine. Using high-quality filters and swapping them out when necessary will result in your bike running cleaner that it otherwise would run.

Octane

Fuel octane refers to the amount of pressure that fuel can safely withstand within a combustion engine. Higher octane means more pressure, and this more power. However, a motorcycle’s engine needs to be specially modified if you want to reap the benefits of using higher octane fuel. Furthermore, a motorcycle engine modified to use higher octane fuel may be damaged if you try to run it with a tank full of standard fuel. Consider the pros and cons of modifying your motorcycle’s engine to use premium fuel before you make the change.

Reduce Your Motorcycle's Weight

Lighter motorcycles are more fuel efficient and can accelerate faster. Besides removing unnecessary accessories, you can also reduce weight in other ways. Some examples include packing lighter, swapping out your two-person seat when riding alone, and not filling up your tank all the way when it’s not necessary.

Take Care of Your Tires

Old, worn-out tires won’t give you as much traction as new ones. Keep your motorcycle’s tires within the manufacturer recommended pressure range as much as possible, and occasionally inspect them to make sure that they haven’t become too worn down.
