There are many motorcycle repairs simple enough for the average owner to perform at home, but you won’t get far without the right tools! That’s why the experts at Moroney's Harley-Davidson® have created this guide to building your motorcycle toolkit. Read on to learn more!

Packing the Toolkit

Different motorcycle models will have different maintenance and repair needs. While this list represents a good baseline for what the average toolkit should contain, be sure to read your owner’s manual to see if there are any additions or substitutions you should make.

Fold-Up Allen Wrench

An Allen wrench can be used to remove or tighten the fasteners on your motorcycle. Allen wrenches come in many different sizes, so make sure that the wrench you have fits your motorcycle’s fasteners. If you want to take your tools with you, try a fold-up Allen wrench.

A Flat Head Screwdriver

Motorcycle maintenance involves a lot of work in tight spaces, so try to find the thinnest and narrowest flat head screwdriver you can. Some flat head screwdrivers have small magnets on the end, which can be useful if you need to pick up dropped fasteners.

Pliers

Pliers are used to improve your grip.  Not only can they straighten, loosen, or tighten parts and fasteners, but they are also useful under cold or wet conditions when your hands might be shaking.

Multipurpose Pocket Knife

A multipurpose pocket knife can save you weight and space by combining many tools into one. There are all kinds of models available, so focus on finding one that has the attachments you need.

Flashlight

Inspecting your motorcycle’s internal components can be difficult if you can’t see. A flashlight will help illuminate all the tiny nooks and crannies, as well as help you make repairs in the dark should the need arise.

Battery Cables

Battery cables are great to have around since they are lightweight and can be used to fix a variety of common battery issues. Best of all, they don’t take up much space if you roll them up.

Spare Fuses

Broken fuses are very easy to replace, but be sure to check your owner’s manual to make sure that you have the right size.
